New Dog with Old Dog?

I’m torn.

I’ve had my old mutt since I was 24, I’m now 35 and he’s walked with me through a million lifetimes it seems. I had him before I had a husband or kids. We’re truly best friends. He’s always been an only dog, bar a foster pup here and there.

Recently my husband has expressed interest in getting another dog, but I’m hesitant because I’m worried I’m going to break my old dog’s heart. I feel crazy.

I’m worried he will feel like we are trying to replace him. I’m worried he will feel like he’s not good enough anymore. I’m worried bringing a puppy into the mix will break his heart.

Any advice? Tell me if similar experiences.
