New plant, but what’s wrong?

This is my first aglaonema. I picked it up about two weeks ago I’ve watered it twice to get the feel for how much the plant will take in. I watered it two days ago (2 cups) and the soil is already desert dry again. Is the okay still adjusting or am I doing something wrong ?
