Question for BMW M Track Days Participants

Hey everyone,

I’m set to participate in a BMW M Track Day at COTA in July, and I’m super excited about it! When signing up, I had to choose my skill level (beginner, intermediate, amateur, or pro) and I selected intermediate. Now I’m wondering if I made the right choice.

I’ve tracked my cars about five times, been instructed once on a track driving a GT3 RS, and have done several autocross events. I also do some sim racing and plan to practice COTA beforehand. However, after watching some YouTube videos of the M Track Day at COTA, particularly the lead/follow sessions, I felt the pace was a bit slow. Not sure what group the person in the video was in, but I’d be disappointed if I couldn’t go faster.

For those who have attended M Track Days, how important is the skill level you select? Does it significantly affect the experience? Any tips or pointers for a great day would be appreciated!

Also, can I bring my own helmet? I tend to get sweaty hands on the track and usually wear racing gloves—would that be considered silly?

Thanks in advance!
