Clothes still stink after illness—losing my mind! Please help!
About a month ago, we were really sick, and one of the worst symptoms was intense night sweats. Ever since, the clothes we wore during that time have a stubborn, awful smell that won’t go away no matter what I do.
I’ve washed them multiple times (at 40°C, long cycle) with plenty of detergent, but the smell lingers. My washing machine is very clean—I’m meticulous about maintenance—so I know that’s not the issue. If I wash regular clothes right after, they come out perfectly normal, but any load that includes even one piece from the worn-while-ill batch ends up stinking.
Things I’ve tried so far:
Extra detergent (didn’t help)
Soaking in vinegar (no luck)
Programs with pre-soak (still stinks)
At this point, I’m at a total loss. Why is this happening, and how do I fix it? Some of these are my favorite PJs and "feel good" pieces, so I really don’t want to throw them out or wash them too hot. Any advice would be hugely appreciated! Thanks!
