Any places like a large parking space where you can teach someone how to drive close to Durham City, Gilesgate area?

I am looking for a place to teach a friend how to drive, the only place that comes to my mind is Tesco's extra parking lot but it is too busy. I am looking for a remote area with enough space, it does not have to be as big as Tesco's extra parking lot. If you have any suggestions it will be great, thank you!
