Historical MM romance without homophobia?
Looking for recs of MM historical romance but WITHOUT period-typical homophobia. This obviously departs from historical accuracy, which I’m fine with.
I would be especially interested in what basically amounts to an alt-history where gay relationships are widely accepted (e.g., medieval romance where gay marriage exists), but I would be fine with a laissez-faire attitude toward gay relationships even if they aren’t afforded quite the same rights (e.g., “Chauncey and his man live over there, and have done for ages”). Also fine if the work reflects a historical period where sexuality was understood differently than it is today, as long as durable same-sex relationships are widely accepted/don’t need to be hidden.
Prefer no switching, if possible.
Since this is a request for historical romance I would prefer to avoid fantasy and shifter fiction. Thanks!
