How Wilds’ Co-op Multiplayer Works

Hi guys, I have been trying to source this answer by going through all the reviews but the only detailed answer is in Rurikhan’s video.

At the 20:15 mark, he states that he tested this with a friend and the case is:

1) You create a link party with your friend(s).

2) If you are both at the same progression point, you will be placed in your own instance for the story cutscene/gameplay. SEE EDIT BELOW

3) Once the cutscene has finished and also ends in a hunt, the game will invite the player(s) in your link party to your hunt. (This is done by hitting the monster a few times, supposedly.)

4) If you kill the monster, you will all progress the story together, but will be placed back into your own instance for the story cutscene/gameplay until completed.

All in all, it’s better than World, but not a full co-operative experience.

If anyone has any further suggestions feel free to add, and I’ll add it to this post.

Happy Hunting!

Edit to include u/viotech3 's comment as follows:

You cannot be in the same world as eachother and progress in the story or take on typical quests. So you're never 'separated' into any 'instances' because you're simply never together at the start.

Rurikhan means you each start your own respective quest when they say 'instance'; that's the same as in World. But...

When the cutscene and/or mandatory autowalking is done, (EDIT: Whoops, I was too hasty in attacking the monster.) you do not immediately begin the quest - only after attacking the monster does the quest begin. My mistake was just... hitting the monster until my other player finished their cutscene. That meant I did have to leave (since I started the quest), but if I just walked away it would've been fine & the invite would've popped up.

Fundamentally it's not that different but it's not the same. It's 50% more convenient, you just cannot be in an environment link together which is unfortunate, but there is improvement if you're not as gung-ho as I've been...
