Nigeria has an authoritative issue

Nigerians has an authoritative issue where you must respect your elders no matter what. This means you’re not allowed to respectfully question authority without elders saying it’s “disrespectful” or how “they never talked back to their parents” etc and they just gaslight you to believing your always wrong in any situation. It’s like elders are programmed to submit to authority no matter what and it’s passed down from generation to generation.

This leads to actual authority to be corrupt without no consequences because they know Nigerians won’t question them since the unwritten precedent has been programmed into them that they can’t saying anything to authority. Nigerians may always complain and claim the government is corrupt all the time but you already know they’ll never do anything about it because they’re programmed to think it’s wrong to stand up to blatant injustice.

I’m not saying respecting your elders is wrong but Nigerians think that you must respect your elders no matter what physical or emotional or any pain they inflict on you or else its wrong or they’ll just constantly gaslight you to make themselves the victim in any situation. This authoritative issue Nigeria has is one of the main reasons Nigeria hasn’t evolved at all in my opinion.
