[Acne] Post-pill acne. How long do I wait?
I am 32. I quit the pill 13 months ago after taking it for 15+ years, and I have been breaking out for 10 months.
My hair also fell out for 9 months.
I did not have acne as a teenager, and do not have a genetic disposition to it. I probably got 1 zit a year on the pill at most despite wearing makeup every day, and 'cleaning' my face with a wet wipe.
Acne is often linked to gut health. I starved myself through my 20s and then panic binged on junkfood in the weekends.
I cut out all processed food, and am now eating a whole food plant-based diet, roughly following Dr. Greger's guidelines since the start of this year. I also started PuraU 2.5 weeks ago, but no positive change yet (my skin has worsened, but that's probably because I stopped topical tretinoin).
I have been slow tapering off a benzodiazepene for a few years, which has wrecked havoc on my nervous system and put my mind and body under immense stress. I'm nearly off, but the stress/anxiety and other symptoms won't be helping.
I got full bloodwork done today. I am awaiting the results. However, even if my hormone levels appear normal, it can still be post-pill acne since the skin regulates hormones independently, and other factors like oil gland sensitivity and hormonal readjustment after stopping the pill can contribute.
I really want to continue to try to heal my acne through my gut health rather than taking something like doxy and then accutance if it returns. But my confidence and self esteem is so shot, so it will be a last resort if it doesn't work.
Has anyone had post-pill acne take longer than a year (since the acne begun), then heal??
