The Kirkland Possible Plotline
It's my first watch watching the The Mentalist (Just finished the Red John arc S6), and something about Bob Kirkland’s storyline never sat right with me. What if his twin brother, Michael, wasn’t actually killed by Red John but instead became one of his disciples? Bob was convinced that Red John murdered Michael , but we never saw a body. What if Red John told Michael to use Bob’s high-ranking Homeland Security position to his advantage?
Think about it—Red John always had people in powerful places feeding him information, and having an inside man at Homeland Security would explain how he managed to stay ahead for so long. Plus, remember the scene where Bob (or was it actually Michael?) kills Jason Lennon in the hospital before he can reveal Red John’s identity? If it was Michael, it makes way more sense—he was silencing someone who could expose Red John since he's his disciple.
Another thing that stands out is how Bob Kirkland operated. He was ruthless and methodical, clearly trained, but he also acted strangely in certain moments, as if he knew more than he was letting on. Could it be that some of those moments were actually Michael playing his part? It just seems too convenient that Bob assumed Michael was dead without ever seeing proof.
What do you guys think? Did The Mentalist miss an opportunity to use the Kirkland twins for a deeper twist?
