Battery drains when sleeping?

*apologies if I sound dumb, just looking for some advice?*
I got my G14 a few months ago and it IS my first gaming laptop, so I might just be expecting too much from the battery, but I picked this laptop because it seemed perfect for both my games and also using it for my work/academics. Before getting this laptop I had a Macbook that would use virtually no battery when I closed the lid, putting it to sleep off-charge. I have the battery setting on my G14 to prevent it from charging over 80% as I'm trying to be careful about its battery, and when I closed the lid last night I took it off charge just in case. Anyway, I woke up to it being completely dead. The only problem is, I had tabs and windows open for my work and research that luckily were saved and google chrome managed to restore the tabs, but if not I'd have been fucked losing them all.
Is there something in particular that drains the battery while it's in sleep/lid closed that I should turn off? - the slash light is already turned off when the lid is closed. Or maybe I should just keep it plugged in?
