FITS comments from a long time fan
A little background: been familiar with Jason since I saw DBT live at a festival mid day when Dirty South was being released. Absolutely blown away by the performance and the dedication of the 50 or so fans that were there.
To be honest I didn’t take to Jason at first. I was enamored with Cooley and then Patterson. That was until I watched the live at the 40 watt DVD and saw Jason sing “danko/manuel” and the others.
At this point he had gone solo and I was in love with his first 2 solo albums and on to “codeine” and here we rest. Saw him live for these songs at a small venue. He was my wife and my “little known secret” and I was obsessed.
Time goes on, and southeastern blew my mind. Then came more and more fame. Each album after was amazing in its own way but I’ll be honest, reunions took about a year to really stick with me. Maybe just life or whatever. Now I absolutely love it.
I digress
FITS: at the height of this man’s career and expectations and drama, this man figures he’ll release a totally raw, just him and guitar, album. That alone is incredible.
With jason we have a guy that tries new things on every single album, resting on no laurels, and pushing new boundaries.
Each FITS song has grown on me and they are just straight up good songs. Man and a guitar, melodies, lyrics, all of it. As a long time fan I enjoy reading all the debates and favorite/most hated lines etc. but this is just an amazing work and I wanted to throw out some general appreciation into the universe.
