Needing help for an adult with asperger's spectrum disorder
I have a situation that I really need help with. The son of a former employee of mine is a low functioning Asperger's sufferer. He's barely functional. To give you an idea of his condition: He's 22 years old, but I've had to show him how to fry a hamburger in a pan, fold a t-shirt, and put on a new sock. He speaks in a whisper. His hygiene is awful. You get the idea.
He lives with his mother, who completely neglects him. She provides him with very little food (I often ask him when he last ate and his answer is typically "Yesterday morning" or something similar) He's definitely malnourished. I "employ" the guy and pay for his phone, groceries, etc.
His quality of life is tragic and he's desperate to get out of that house. He's comfortable with the idea of moving into a group home situation.
Does anyone know of any resources that he could benefit from? Any kind of assistance? I'm sure he could get some sort of disability. He lives in Kansas. Is there some kind of advocate service or something? Anything?
