Does anyone else experience both arms becoming very weak and painful down to the knuckles during an attack?

First off, I’ve had migraines since I was little. I inherited them from my mom who has been a life long sufferer of frequent migraines in her life. Both my sisters also get migraines but I seem to have inherited the brunt of it since I struggle the most. I am 34F.

In my 20’s my body would warn me about a migraine that was getting ready to be unleashed by causing the back of my head and neck to become numb. At that point, I would take my imitrex and take it easy in hopes it wouldn’t hit me strong. I used to also see little dots or “stars” randomly when I was experiencing the migraine episode. Luckily, my migraines became less frequent. They never stopped completely. I was getting them maybe once a month during my “good phase”.

Since September of last year (2021) a new aura/symptom has started happening and I haven’t been able to get any answers as to what it might be. This is what happens:

I get a normal headache. Sometimes (rarely) I’m able to take OTC medicine and lay down and it will pass without turning into a full blown episode. However most of the time, this headache will start getting sharper and the back of my head feels numb and that’s when I’m like “ok, this is gonna get bad in a second”. I’ll take my imitrex and lay down in a quiet dark room. I become insanely sensitive to any kind of light at ALL (even the little green light from the fire alarm on the ceiling is killer) and sound is pretty rough as well but not as bad as light. The migraine will kick in and I’ll be in pain for about 10 min and then I’ll start feeling a tense feeling on the base of my neck and shoulders. Almost like when you feel tense and need a massage. But the tenseness doesn’t subside. It becomes worse and worse and moves all the way down to my fingers. Both of my entire arms feel sore. The best way I can describe it is that burning feeling you get after lifting weights or having dead arms after getting a tetanus shot into the muscle. My arms hurt and they feel weak. They are sore. They feel exhausted likes I’ve been doing a million pull-ups. My knuckles get very sore and stiff-like. It feels like arthritis. It’s so painful…after my episode passes for the most part, my arms feel like jelly. They’re tired as all hell and it’s a struggle to be able to move them or use them. They work, but it’s just a chore because they feel tired and weak. My migraine never fully goes away. It lingers as a headache for 2-5 days. Sometimes that lingering headache turns into another episode and the cycle starts again.

I 100% feel the migraine hangover. I’m tired, fatigued, unable to find any energy in me.

I’ve tried looking up and researching migraines with arm weakness but all I’ve found is hemiplegic migraines which causes weakness on one side of the body. Mine is both of my arms every time.

I also get sore teeth, the roots of my hair gets sore as well.

I’m just trying to see if anyone has experienced this as well.

My neurologist left to go back to school for a bit so I was seeing a new neurologist that didn’t do anything for me. Just prescribed meds. Now my original neurologist is back, thank the lorddddd, and I’ve called to make an appt with her. I’m just waiting for the office to call me back.

Until then….does anyone have any insight? Experience?

Thanks!
