Sub-species Are Bugged?

Has anyone else done some testing with how the subspecies worked and noticed it seems bugged?

I was doing some testing in single player using the /getattr commands to see how the different sub-species affect dinos to myth-bust some things I've seen people say. Unless I am missing something big, it seems that only the speed stat changes when picking a +/- speed and defense sub species. I use /getattr to check every stat I could including armor, maxhealth, combatweight, and I cannot find anyway that +/- defense affects dinos. Speed +/- subspecies do affect the movementspeedmultiplier attribute as they should, so it seems like there is no downside to picking speed and no upside to picking defense.

I'm still figuring out thee best ways to test this kind of stuff so feedback is appreciated if I'm missing something obvious
