Meniscus tear right knee

My luck of being injury for many many decades has come to an end. Any over 50 year old runners with knee chondromalacia and medial meniscus tear out there? They gave me a steroid injection Tuesday which has given me transiently more pain. 72h later the pain is better and I'm told it should continue to improve but at this point I'm not better than pre injection. I will start PT in a few weeks. If all else falls, then surgery to clean it out is on the table. Can anyone share their experiences? I'm really bummed right now.
