Dear Americans, why do you keep building your homes from Wood?

This question is specifically posed to those who live in Natural Disaster prone areas e.g. Hurricanes and tornadoes. (Hence the emphasis on America)

In case of a tornado, wooden homes get blown into smithereens. Homes built from alternative materials such as Stone, would have a much greater chance of survival.

Secondly, a wooden house is a fire hazard. In my country, Kenya (which builds with stone), domestic fires are infrequent. When growing up, I always wondered why American houses were always burning until I learned about their prolific use of wood.

Lastly, there is much newer and better alternative materials (Even better than stone). Such as HEMP, which is carbon negative, fire resistant, mould resistant and is a natural temperature regulator.

EDIT: Here is a link that was shared to me that explains why: Why hurricane-resistant homes aren’t constructed, bought more frequently – AccuWeather.com/en/
